Jury Deadlocks In Seal Beach Surgeon's Fraud Trial

SEAL BEACH, Calif. -- The trial of a surgeon accused of performing unnecessary surgeries and other procedures to defraud health insurance companies has ended with a judge declaring a mistrial on 10 of the 12 charges. Doctor William Wilson Hampton of Seal Beach was found guilty on one count of health care fraud and not guilty on another health care fraud count. The jury deadlocked on nine other health care fraud charges and one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud.
A hearing is scheduled for Monday, when the U.S. Attorney's Office will announce whether it will dismiss the remaining charges against Hampton or retry him.
