Man Booked For Arson After Fireworks-Sparked Apartment Blaze

POSTED: 6:29 am PDT July 5, 2007

A man was arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire sparked by fireworks damaged four units of a Glendale apartment building oveornight, police said.

Kevin Cunningham, 22, was booked for felony arson, said Glendale police Sgt. Susan Hayn.

Cunningham, who allegedly was using fireworks inside the building, was treated for second-degree burns suffered in the fire, Hayn said.

The fire began at about 2:45 a.m. in the 800 block of Chevy Chase Drive, said a Glendale Fire Department dispatcher. The flames were mostly extinguished by 4 a.m., and firefighters remained on scene to douse hot spots.

Four units were damaged, and one of them was destroyed, Hayn said.
