CYPRESS, Calif. -- A security guard found unconscious Friday at a church construction site in Cypress died at a hospital, and his death was being investigated as a homicide, police said. Michael Thomas Garry, 52, of Westminster, was found about 6 a.m. at the massive Cottonwood Christian Church site in the 4500 block of Katella Avenue, said Cypress police Sgt. Ken Ramsey. Police were withholding the cause of death, according to Ramsey, who did not know if the guard had been armed.
Ramsey said it was a "good possibility" the attack on the guard, who worked the night shift solo, may have stemmed from an attempt to steal building equipment. Garry worked for a firm hired by the site contractor, Ramsey said.
