MOUNT WILSON, Calif. -- Authorities recovered the body of a female hiker Monday from the Mount Wilson area of the Angeles National Forest, after a rockslide and bad weather halted an earlier effort, authorities said.Video The woman apparently fell near Chantry Flats on Saturday, Deputy Tony Moore of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau said. Her body was recovered Monday morning, said Deputy Ed Hernandez.
Authorities withheld the name of the woman, who was 32, pending notification of her relatives, Craig Harvey of the coroner's office said. The woman was hiking with a group of friends when she lost her footing and fell off a cliff at about 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Moore said. Members of the sheriff's Emergency Services Detail and the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team found the body about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Moore said. Because of bad weather -- and a rockslide on Mount Wilson Road --the recovery of the body was delayed, authorities said. Crews were continuing their efforts to clear the roadway, the California Highway Patrol reported.
