BASE Jumpers Leap Off San Diego Hotel Roof
Four parachutists celebrating Leap Day leaped off the roof of the Manchester Grand Hyatt hotel in downtown San Diego on Friday morning.

Helmet Cam ImagesThe men leaped off the 30-plus-story tower at about 7:30 a.m. to the delight of a small crowd that had gathered on the ground and dozens of hotel guests watching from inside their rooms.The event was a promotional event sponsored by Red Bull energy drinks. The company's logo was visible on the "BASE jumpers'" parachutes. Event organizers said the jump on Friday was the first legal BASE jump in San Diego.
BASE jumping is an extreme sport in which parachutists leap off stationary objects.The practice reportedly began in 1978 when jumpers began leaping from El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.
