School Says 11 Students, Coach Disciplined After Hazing Incident

MISSION HILLS, Calif. -- School officials in Mission Hills said Tuesday they cannot discuss a hazing incident involving the varsity volleyball team.
VideoBishop Alemany High School officials said 11 students and a coach have been disciplined.School officials would not allow KNBC cameras on campus, nor would they discuss the incident on camera.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a 17-year-old was treated at a hospital, and the incident could have been classified as a possible sex crime.Police said because the incident happened last month in Santa Barbara, they have given the case to Santa Barbara authorities.School officials confirmed there was a hazing incident, describing it as a prank that somehow went awry, KNBC's Furnell Chatman reported."Hazing is against the behavioral and ethical standards of our students. It is prohibited ... The LAPD was immediately notified. The subsequent investigation did not result in any action being taken by police," said spokesman for the Los Angeles archdiocese Tod Tamberg.Bishop Alemany High School is located at 11111 N. Alemany Drive (map). The co-ed school is owned and operated by the Department of Catholic Schools of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, according to the school's Web site.
