STANTON, Calif. -- A 28-year-old Oxnard man who objected to someone urinating outside a bar in Stanton was apparently run down twice and killed early Saturday morning.Video | ImagesOrange County Sheriff's spokesperson Jim Amormino said the victim, Richard Zarate, was with four other people after leaving Loffler's bar, a neighborhood saloon in the northwestern Orange County city of Stanton, at 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
"One of the suspects was urinating outside when the victim took offense to that. There were some words exchanged," Amormino said.A passenger inside the Honda reportedly grabbed the victim's girlfriend by the hair as the car sped by, slamming her to the pavement as well, investigators said.Zarate died about five hours after the 1:30 a.m. attack in the street near Lofflers Bar in Stanton, Orange County sheriff's Lt. Ted Boyne said. The Honda struck Zarate near Regal Avenue and Mac Street at about 1:30 a.m., and he died about 6 a.m. at a hospital, Boyne said.According to Orange County sheriff's spokesperson Jim Amormino, Zarate was with four other people after leaving Lofflers bar.As they were walking down the street, the Honda -- with four females and two males inside -- veered toward the group, striking the victim and dragging him about 75 yards, Amormino said. The car then made a U-turn on a dead end street and deliberately ran over him again, he said."The motive is under investigation. We're not sure what prompted the act, it may have been a dispute inside the bar," he said. "The victim's girl reported as the car went by someone in the car grabbed her hair. She was knocked down, suffering from cuts and abrasions."Amormino said witnesses were able to get a partial license plate number -- either "1G" or "1Q," adding that the Honda should have some front end damage to it.
