UPDATED: 8:30 am PDT May 9, 2008

A 28-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting at least two children remained behind bars Friday, Los Angeles police said.

Pedro Ortiz, a previously deported felon, was arrested Tuesday as police investigated a report of a sexual assault involving a 6-year-old child and his 3-year-old sibling, police said.

Police believe Ortiz rented a place next door to where the victim lives in Sun Valley, befriended the children or the child's family, then sexually molested the children

Ortiz, who once lived in the Panorama City area, has used the names "Pete," Sadot Lopez and Andres Lopez and may have molested other children, police said.

Ortiz was booked at a valley lockup on suspicion of lewd acts on a child younger than 14, police said.

Anyone with more information about Ortiz or other victims was asked to contact Detective Karen Crawford or Lt. Alan Hamilton at the North Hollywood Station during normal office hours at 818-623-4045; nights and weekends, 877-LAW-FULL.
