A Florida man and a teenager allegedly caught a 7-foot alligator illegally, and the whole thing was caught on tape by a passing college student.

The two claimed they were trying to relocate the animal last Sunday, but authorities said that is illegal in Florida.

Indian River Community College student Brian Shultz, 20, said he happened to be passing by and grabbed his camera when he saw two people trying to catch an alligator.

"When I got up there, I was amazed by it," Shultz said. "I parked my car, jumped out, started rolling."

The pair used yellow rope and duct tape to bind the animal and tossed it into the back of their truck.

Nearly 15 people stopped to witness the event, not realizing they were witnessing a possibly illegal act.

"Having possession of an American alligator ... is a misdemeanor here in Florida," said Gabriella Ferraro with the Florida Wildlife Commission.

Only licensed trappers or hunters are allowed to move an alligator in Florida.

The 17-year-old boy and Grayson Kyte, 20, were arrested and will face a judge at a later date, authorities said.

In Port St. Lucie, there was no answer at the door where Kyte lives.

Authorities said the alligator has been relocated to a state park.
