Houston, TX -- (Sports Network) - The Houston Dynamo advanced to the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions' Cup with a 3-1 win against CSD Municipal on Wednesday night in the second leg of their quarterfinal series.Midfielder and reigning Major League Soccer Cup MVP Dwayne De Rosario scored two second-half goals to lead the back-to-back MLS champs to the series victory after the teams battled to a 0-0 tie in the opening leg. "Dwayne got us off to great start in the second half with persistence on the first goal," Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear told MLSnet.com. "We gave them a lot of pressure and created crosses, especially off the corner kicks. We played just a tiny bit better and got sharper in the second half."
The Dynamo broke the 135-minute scoreless deadlock just after the break when De Rosario blasted a shot home from about 10 yards. De Rosario doubled the home side's advantage in the 67th minute when he converted a penalty kick drawn by winger Corey Ashe, who was taken down in the penalty area. The Dynamo took the suspense out of the match by going up 3-0 when Ashe took a pass from Brian Ching and cooly played it to Chris Wondolowski, who tapped in from six yards. "They were coming at us and trying to dictate the pace of the game, and we had to re-adapt to that," De Rosario said. "In the second half, we wanted to set the tone of the game, and we did that well." Municipal's Guillermo Ramirez converted a penalty kick five minutes from time to break Houston's shutout bid, but it was too little too late. Houston now awaits the Atlante-Saprissa winner on Thursday night. Atlante currently holds a 2-1 advantage. The other semifinal is already set with MLS' D.C. United taking on Mexican club and current Champions' Cup holder Pachuca.
