LOS ANGELES -- In September, NBC4 and Fred Roggin launched The Challenge, an entertaining and informative interactive show that allows viewers to compete in real-time over 15 weeks for the chance to win prizes, including a Flat Screen television, Hawaiian Holiday, and a Trip to an NFL Sunday Night Game. The first installment of The Challenge aired directly after the completion of NBC4's broadcast of Sunday Night Football on Sept. 10. A first of its kind in local television, The Challenge is specifically designed for the audience watching Sunday Night Football, offering a combination of Roggin's signature humor, with segments such as "Roggin's Heroes" and "Hall of Shame," along with a unique competition where viewers are asked questions about sports, with an emphasis on Southern California.
Pre-registered viewers compete on-line or by cell phone over the 15-week run of the show to see who can amass the most points. There will be multiple weekly winners, as well as an overall, cumulative grand prize winner. The Challenge will also feature an online Fantasy Football League, as well as instant analysis -- who to sit, who to start, the studs, the duds, the players to trade and the sleepers to pick.Fred Roggin, who is an executive producer and host of the show, said, "We developed this concept with the viewer in mind. Not only have we included viewer favorites like the 'Hall of Shame' and 'Roggin's Heroes,' but we give people a chance to be a part of the show every week. Because people play as they watch, there will be an added sense of excitement. Every question counts; every minute counts."
NBC4 President and General Manager Paula Madison added, "This is an opportunity for us to develop unique programming and capitalize on the predominantly male audience watching the NFL. This show is not a typical locally produced show that runs adjacent to sports programming. We've committed a lot of energy and resources to making 'The Challenge' a new type of television experience for the audience, utilizing a variety of platforms."Fred Roggin is the most recognizable sports anchor in Los Angeles, with more than 26 years of broadcasting excellence on NBC4. In addition to winning more than 40 prestigious awards including Emmy, Golden Mike, Associated Press and Press Club Awards, Roggin has also been chosen Best Sportscaster in a Daily News Reader Poll and was named California Sportscaster of the Year by the National Association of Sports Broadcasters.Well-known for his use of humor and satire in his sports reporting, Roggin has created and hosted a number of weekly series and specials that have aired on NBC4, including "LA Marathon," "Roggin's Heroes," "Sports Bowl," "Sunday Night Sports with Fred Roggin," "Top Secret Television," "The Arthel and Fred Show.""Roggin’s Heroes" began as a sports segment and featured clips of remarkable or extraordinary plays occurring in the world of sports."Hall of Shame" features video footage of humorous and unforgettable sports moments. Roggin can also be seen in NBC's coverage of the summer and winter Olympics.Charlie Rosene and Steve Leveton will also serve as executive producers. "The Challenge" is produced by NBC4.
This exciting new interactive format gives viewers a chance to compete online or by cell phone for a trip to Hawaii or a flat-screen television and other valuable prizes. |
