A man was killed Monday when a trailer being towed by a truck came loose, resulting in a four-vehicle crash on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Baldwin Park, the California Highway Patrol reported.

East LA County Traffic

Gil Tae Kim, 48, of Rancho Cucamonga, died at the scene of head injuries he sustained in the 11 a.m. collision on the southbound 605, south of Ramona Boulevard, authorities said.

Michael D. Brown, 45, of Long Beach, was northbound in a Ford F-350 truck towing the trailer, which became detached and bounced over the center divider wall onto the southbound lanes, according to the CHP accident report.

A tire from the trailer struck the windshield of Kim's 2007 Toyota Camry on the driver's side. The impact caused Kim to lose control of his car, which slid into the center divider wall and came to rest in a dirt and grass area on the right side of the freeway, according to the CHP.

Two other vehicles were also involved in the crash. The drivers were treated for minor to moderate injuries.
