Teen Bicyclist Injured In Hit-And-Run In Artesia

POSTED: 9:14 am PDT March 26, 2008

A 17-year-old boy was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries Wednesday after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding a bicycle in Artesia, authorities said.

The victim and two other males were riding their bicycles southbound on Elaine Street near South Street at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when an older red Honda compact traveling north on Elaine Street sideswiped the back of the victim's bicycle, causing him to fall to the ground, a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy told an On Scene Video camera crew at the scene.

The driver did not stop, the deputy told On Scene, adding that the Honda likely has visible front-end damage.

The victim was taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, said Lt. Minh Dinh of the sheriff's Lakewood Station.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information on the hit-and-run driver was asked to call the sheriff's Lakewood Station at 562-866-9061.
