RESEDA, Calif. -- A man who allegedly struck three people with a vehicle in Reseda, killing one of them, was arrested on suspicion of murder over the weekend, police said. Maziar Tehrani, 29, of Encino, was killed in the 7000 block of Delco Avenue, near Hart Street, at about 1 a.m. Sunday, said Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department Media Relations Section. Marquis Dejon Jiles, 25, of Northridge, got into a friend's vehicle after a fight at a party and allegedly struck Tehrani and two others, Lee said.
After the fight, "(Jiles) then drove off and everybody thought that he was leaving," Detective Joel Price said. "He made a U-turn and came back at a high rate of speed." Jiles allegedly ran over Tehrani with the car and hit a 34-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, Lee said. Tehrani was declared dead at a hospital. "I don't believe Mr. Tehrani was the intended target," Price said. "I don't know that there was anybody specifically that was targeted." The other two victims were treated for minor injuries. The impact of hitting the people caused the vehicle's airbags to deploy. Jiles then fled on foot and sought asylum at a neighbor's house, telling a resident that he had been shot and that his life was in danger, according to broadcast reports. Police found him aboard an ambulance during a perimeter search, Sgt. Jim Setzer of the LAPD's West Valley Station said. He had also suffered minor injuries in the crash. Jiles was booked on suspicion of murder and was being held in lieu of $1 million bail."He may have believed that he was targeting the people who he was fighting with, but by all appearances that's not who he hit," Price said.
